Centenary Celebrations
Passenger Services : 1908 to 2008
A number of special events over the weekend of 13 / 14 September 2008 marked the centenary of opening of the Middy for passenger services.
It should perhaps be explained that, for the purposes of these celebrations, Brockford Station (complete with a sandy beach and seaside accoutrements) represented Felixstowe in the re-enactment of a 1908 excursion from the MSLR to Felixstowe !
The event opened on Saturday 13th when Cllr Anne Whybrow, the present Mayor of Stowmarket, arrived by train (at Brockford station, representing Felixstowe station) to be greeted by Cllr Mike Deacon, the present Mayor of Felixstowe.
A beach scene had been created in the station yard, complete with sand, figures in Edwardian dress, a 'Punch and Judy' show and an ice-cream vendor complete with tri-cycle!

A considerable number of our volunteers put a great deal of effort into planning and executing this very successful weekend of events.
More photos of this event will be posted here when received, together with a full report.
