MSLR OPEN WAGONS Nos 5 and 8
VAN No 9 (MSLR conversion of an open wagon)
Constructional Details : Scratch-built in 7mm scale by John Candy to accompany his model of loco No.2.
The sides, ends and solebars for three open wagons were cast from polyurethane resin in moulds produced from master patterns made of plastic card and brass rivets. The dimensions and details were taken from published drawings.
The van superstructure was made from plastic card and brass rivets and is mounted (as was the prototype van) on a modified open wagon (since only one van body was required there was little advantage in making a mould from which to cast the body).
The w-irons, axleboxes and springs were cast in white metal, again using moulds from a plastic card master pattern.
The sprung buffers, brake rigging and wheels are by Slaters.
The custom-made transfers were ordered together with those for loco No.2 and the completed models were donated to the museum, along with the locomotive and brake van No.2.
