The MSLR is pleased to announce Bagnall 0-4-0ST w/no. 2565, a visitor at our Light Railway Gala in September, will now be staying on the railway for the foreseeable future.
It is now planned that 2565 will work our five Santa Special trains in December, as well as services at the Christmas Fayre run by the local village of Wetheringsett.
This will allow our 2014 resident loco Wissington to spend winter at the North Norfolk Railway for routine maintenance to take place undercover in the workshops at Weybourne, returning for the start of next season.
The extension of 2565’s stay on the MSLR has been reached following discussions with the engine’s owner and it has already received some minor maintenance during the last few months.
The locomotive, a former Central Electricity Generating Board engine which worked in Northamptonshire, returned to service this year following a long-term restoration. It hauled it’s first passenger services in preservation at the MSLR gala.
Following its Santa Special duties 2565 will also take charge of the New Year’s Day trains before being winterised to protect it until the new operating season.
