The MSLR is pleased to announce the former-London and North Eastern Railway Y7 locomotive has arrived at the railway for the 2016 operating season.
The engine is privately owned and normally based at the North Norfolk Railway, though it has been on hire to other railways in the last few years.
This is the first loco which belonged to a former main line railway company to visit the MSLR since ex-London, Brighton and South Coast A1X class Martello.
The 0-4-0, though small in main line terms, is quite large next to our other resident locos, all of which are ex-indeustrials. The Y7, with 14in diameter cylinders, is likely to be more powerful than all of them.
While at the MSLR the Y7, which spent much of its working lifetime as a docks or loco works shunting engine, will be involved in several private photo charters, all of which have now sold out.
It will also run on normal operating days and it is hoped will make an appearance at our season-opening Easter Steam-up on March 27 and 28, as well as at Middy in the War Years over the May Day Bank Holiday weekend.
