Following on from the submission of our Transport and Works Act Order, on 1st August 2024, we’re delighted to announce that, on Friday 21st February 2025, our application has been approved by the Secretary of State for Transport.

The Order provides statutory authority for the Company to maintain and operate the railway authorised by separate planning permissions, including the level crossing over the public footpath. It also requires the Company to provide, maintain and operate, at the public footpath level crossing FP46, such protective equipment as the Office of Rail and Road requires.
Announcement 1st August 2024
The Mid Suffolk Light Railway Company have today applied to the Secretary of State for Transport for a Transport and Works Act Order.
The application, draft Order and documents accompanying the Order can be found below and are able to be downloaded.
The Order, if granted, authorises the operation and maintenance of the railway within the site of the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway Museum, including a level crossing over public footpath 46, which passes through the site. The Order further provides for the transfer of the railway by the applicant.
Any person who wishes to purchase a copy of the application or of any document that accompanied it may do so by applying to Mid-Suffolk Light Railway Company by email to chairman@mslr.org.uk or by calling 020 7593 0364.
Any objections to, or other representations about, the proposals in the application should be sent to the Secretary of State for Transport c/o Transport Infrastructure Planning Unit, Department for Transport, Zone 1/18, Great Minster House, 33 Horseferry Road, London SW1P 4DR, or email transportinfrastructure@dft.gov.uk.
An objection or representation MUST (i) be received by the Secretary of State on or before 12 September 2024, (ii) be made in writing (whether sent by post or email), (iii) state the grounds of the objection or other representation, (iv) indicate who is making the objection or other representation, and (v) give an address to which correspondence relating to the objection or other representation may be sent. (If you are sending your objection or other representation by e-mail, please provide a postal address and state ” Mid-Suffolk Light Railway Order” in the subject of the email.
The Secretary of State may make complete copies of the objections and other representations public, including any personal information in them, and will copy them to the applicant for the Order.
