MLSR Santa Specials

The MSLR Santa Specials are special steam events where you can take your children on a magical journey from Brockford Station to meet Santa at North Pole Halt



6th, 13th & 19th, 20th December, 8 trains per day, first train 10.00 am

All places MUST be pre-booked – there are no places available to buy at the railway on the day. 

Bookings are for an individual compartment with a minimum charge of £50 per compartment – £50 for a compartment and up to 4 persons, £62.50 for up to 5 people and £75 for up to 6 people.  Should you wish to book for more than 6 people please contact or call 01473 890622 – please note that we cannot accept bookings for a group of greater than 6 unless the whole group are from the same household or support bubble.

The compartments are not wheelchair accessible but alternative travel can be arranged.  Please contact to book.

We require all passengers to stay within current government guidelines regarding Covid-19 when booking or visiting.

You will travel from Brockford Station to meet the Santa at North Pole Halt. Each child will be given a present by Santa from his Magic brake van. After your journey, stop and watch the model layout, the steam traction engine and listen to the Dutch Street organ.

We ask you arrive no more than 15 minutes before your train as we will not be able to accommodate you in our car park if you arrive earlier. We can cater for passengers in wheelchairs – please note on the booking form whether it is for adult or child.

Santa Specials and Lockdown

Lockdown ends at Midnight on the 1st December and Suffolk will be in Tier 2 from 2nd December. We have organised our site and passenger compartments to be Covid compliant so we can be open for the Santa Specials. But we will need our visitors to play their part in observing individual personal guidelines.

Of course, like the rest of the country, we will continue to watch the next Government pronouncements on the Covid-19 emergency and the effect it might have on our plans, but we have already taken all the precautionary measures necessary and have been awarded ‘WE’RE GOOD TO GO’ status.

This means we have a Risk Assessment in place and a process to maintain our cleaning regime and social distancing plan. Our carriages have been compartmentalised and walkway routes have been devised for entering and exiting the station site and trains to protect visitors by social distancing and with sanitising points.

Please read the following information to help us ensure you have a safe and enjoyable visit.

Be prepared!  Bring a face covering

In line with Government policy and advice, all visitors, except those exempt, should wear face coverings in our busy public areas – in and around the station buildings, shop, toilets  on platforms and when getting on or off our trains.  Once seated on a train within the bubble of your own compartment, you may remove face coverings. 

Be Prepared!  Hand sanitiser

We do have a number of hand sanitising stations around the railway that you can use, for example, before you enter the shop, but we also recommend that you bring your own supply of hand sanitiser and wipes.

When you arrive

Please have your e-ticket ready to show staff.  

Please use hand sanitiser on arrival.

All of our services have a departure time. Yours will be shown on your e-ticket. We ask that people arrive for their booked service 15 minutes before the train leaves. Boarding will be approximately 10 minutes before departure. If you are early, please wait in your car.

There will be no access to the station before that time.

Pre-booked compartments

Steam train rides will be in our Victorian carriages and each party will be allocated an individual compartment. Please observe social distancing and wait for our staff to invite you to board as only one party will board at a time.

Booking your own compartment means that you are only ever in your own family or group bubble. Once boarded and under way, you can remove face coverings if appropriate – remembering to replace them when you leave the train.

Eating and drinking

There are currently no refreshment facilities open on the site.

Signage and Social Distancing

To help with social distancing, one-way systems are in place around our museum buildings.  Please obey the instructions, except in the case of an emergency evacuation.  

To respect the safety of our footplate crew, there will be no access to the footplate or within their working space.

Please follow social distancing and government guidance when you visit.  Children must be supervised at all times and accompanying adults must ensure that children observe social distancing and other necessary measures.


 If you need to use the toilet facilities, the toilets will be available – just ask a member of staff at the entrance. You are required to wear a face covering when entering these facilities and please pay extra attention to social distancing when entering or leaving these buildings.  Please sanitise your hands before entering and wash your hands using soap and water before leaving the facilities.

Enhanced cleaning

Surfaces are protected by an anti-microbial surface spray treatment and additionally compartments will be cleaned between every return trip. Toilets will be cleaned regularly during the day and special attention paid to hard surfaces like door handles. Where possible, doors will be wedged open.

Passenger responsibilities

Please help us by always following Government advice and local mitigations at all times including:

  • No one should visit or socialise in a group of greater than 6 unless they are from the same household or support bubble. It is also important that people from different households (who are not meeting as a support bubble) remain socially distanced.
  • Wear a face covering where specified around the railway. 
  • Use the hand sanitiser stations provided or your own regularly. 
  • Avoid touching your face.
  • Observe social distancing.
  • If you are feeling unwell or experiencing symptoms of Covid-19 we would ask you and members of your party or family group to not visit the railway.
