Anniversaries Day

You can go along for ages without an anniversary, then suddenly three come along at once. It is 20 years since the restored Middy ran its first steam trains. And as Andrew Cullum’s superb picture shows, it was almost as if the line had never closed, with the North Norfolk’s J15 disguised as the branch engine no. 65447. This event had been achieved only 10 years after the founding of the Mid -Suffolk Light Railway Museum and cleaning the bramble covered site had begun. It is 70 years after the real 65447 was the loco on duty for the last day’s running on 26th July 1952.

Today we will be celebrating 70 years ago, 30 years ago and 20 years ago with music of the periods courtesy of Kitty Collins, visitors in period dress and a Chairman’s guided tour to show what has been achieved and our plans for the future since the dark days of 1952. As ever there will be all The Middy facilities open for your enjoyment so you can get the feel of what a unique part of British Railway history the MSLR was and why it was worth saving.
