Diesel Day 20th August
Middy steam locomotives are often joined by our diesel locos giving shunting demonstrations, but today the diesels will be the stars.
We have two operational at the moment. The first is Heritage Railway Association award winning Shredded Wheat Company shunter, this pretty little engine may be diesel powered, but its copper capped exhaust chimney gives it a very steam like effect. The second is our own Ruston & Hornsby 165, built for the West Midlands Gas Board in 1951 and, after several other owners, arrived with us in 1998 as our shunter and fall back and general duty loco.
Both will be in operation today, RH 165 on passenger trains and the Fowler ‘Shreddie’ on goods train and shunting demonstrations.
We are also being visited by the Royal Enfield Owners Club today.
