2026 Driver Experiences

The Middy is pleased to announce a limited number of Driver Experiences for 2026 both steam and diesel.

Each course comprises three hours with one of our highly experienced crews during which the ‘Driver’ will learn about firing and driving one of the resident steam locomotives, or as second man and driving two of our diesel locomotives. All will be light engine ie no train or guards van.

For the Steam Driver Experience the price of £350.00 includes entry for two – the driver and one accompanying friend or relative and includes lunch and light refreshments during the course. Other friends and relatives are welcome to attend but will be charged for entry and refreshments at the normal rates.

For the Diesel Driver Experience the price is £175.00 and other details as for the Steam Experience.

The ‘Driver’ will receive a presentation certificate and 12months membership of the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway.

There is limited availability for the Middy’s Driver Experiences and applications will have to be on a first come first served basis.
