Easter at the Middy – started well and just got better

Easter weekend started with the opening of the Middy Bar for the residents and Wetheringsett locals on Good Friday evening with a record £1000.00 plus turnover, so much so that supplies had to be replenished on Saturday. All before the first train had turned a wheel.

On Sunday the weather was perfect for a visit to the MSLR where three locos were in steam, double heading and topping and tailing the three coach trains, including G.E.R coach no.140 the oldest G.E.R. coach known to be in service, newly completely reupholstered. The Tea Room reported their best ever single day’s business and the Middy Bar sold out of draught beer.

Monday continued well, despite the cloudier weather it still didn’t rain, and the visitors kept coming. Entry sales at the Ticket Office for the two days were just short of £7,500.00 and this excluded sales through the web site, altogether more than making up for not being able to open on New Year’s Day due to the storms.

All in all for the first public opening of 2025, the combination of good weather, the three loco Gala and, of course, it being the Easter holiday, things could hardly have gone better.

Now for the next super weekend 25th and 26th May, Middy in the 1940s, when we are promised a double flyover from the Battle of Britain Memorial flight of both a Spitfire and a Hurricane on the 26th.
