June will be railbus month

In a brand new departure for the Middy we will be running passenger services for a month of Sundays with a diesel railbus.

The old MSLR was exclusively steam powered, no diesel locomotive ever hauled a revenue earning train, freight or passenger, in all its 48 years of operation. But supposing British Railways had indulged in a little crystal ball gazing and tried out one the new fangled machines already in use in many continental railways, could it have been the saving of the Branch? Perhaps not, but visitors will be able to experience for themselves what it’s like traveling through Mid-Suffolk on a steam free railbus.

The Middy will be hosting the  East Anglian Railway Museum’s 1958 Waggon & Maschinenbau 4-wheel railbus of the type tried on many of the East Anglian branch lines at end of the fifties and early sixties. Come and enjoy the ride!
